Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the increasing prominence of Indian universities on the global stage, highlighting the government’s dedication to quality education and fostering growth and innovation. This comes in response to a post by Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer at Times Higher Education, on the social media platform X.
In his post, Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight at the strides Indian universities are making internationally. ‘Great to see India’s universities making strides on the global stage! Our commitment to quality education is yielding encouraging results. We will continue to support our educational institutions and provide opportunities for growth and innovation. This will help our youth greatly,’ he wrote.
The Prime Minister’s comments come as India achieves a notable increase in its visibility in the Times Higher Education world rankings. This achievement is attributed to the internationalisation reforms spearheaded by the Modi government. A record 133 Indian universities have submitted entries for the 2025 rankings, a significant rise from just 42 in 2017, making India the fourth best-represented country in the world.
Phil Baty’s original post commended India’s educational advancements, stating, ‘India’s rising visibility in the Times Higher Education world rankings is remarkable, driven by Narendra Modi’s internationalisation reforms.”
This remarkable growth reflects the sustained efforts by the Indian government to enhance the global competitiveness of its higher education institutions. The focus on quality education, coupled with strategic reforms and investments, is positioning Indian universities as key players on the global academic stage.
As Indian universities continue to climb the global rankings, the emphasis on providing quality education and fostering innovation is expected to further bolster the nation’s educational and economic landscape. The government’s ongoing support aims to create an environment where educational institutions can thrive, ultimately benefiting the youth and the future of India.
