NHPC Becomes Navratna Company, Paving the Way for Enhanced Growth

NHPC Limited, a leading player in the Indian power sector, has been elevated to the prestigious status of a ‘Navratna’ company by the Government of India. This significant recognition awarded by the Department of Public Enterprise (Ministry of Finance), grants NHPC greater operational and financial autonomy marking a major milestone in the company’s history.

R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC said, ‘This is a truly historic moment for the NHPC family and recognition of our remarkable financial and operational accomplishments.’ He expressed gratitude on behalf of the NHPC family to the Ministry of Power for their unwavering trust in NHPC and their support which has resulted in conferring Navratna status to NHPC by Government of India.

NHPC has been an important player in the Indian power sector and has played a key role in tapping the hydropower potential of the country. We are a complete green power company which has also diversified in wind and solar energy options, added CMD.

The conferring of Navratna status brings numerous advantages to NHPC, including faster decision-making, increased efficiency, and enhanced employee empowerment. The new status will support the company’s major capital expenditure (CAPEX) and investment plans, driving growth, expanding market reach, and securing long-term gains. NHPC will now possess greater powers to establish joint ventures and overseas offices, access new markets, and leverage local expertise. Additionally, it will foster innovation by promoting technological alliances and strengthening NHPC’s market position. The status also opens doors for potential mergers and acquisitions, contributing to the company’s growth and increased market share.

NHPC currently boasts a total installed capacity of 7,144.20 MW and is actively engaged in constructing projects with an aggregate capacity of 10,442.70 MW, including the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower project in Assam/Arunachal Pradesh and the 2,880 MW Dibang Multi-purpose project in Arunachal Pradesh.
