Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) continues with its digitalization journey and offering the option of the computer-based test (CBT) for its online programmes. Students have to appear for these exams at a designated exam centre.
“As per the current guidelines, even those who enroll for online programmes get the option to take the exam in traditional pen-paper format or CBT. So far, we have noticed that very few are opting for CBT. It’s probably because students are not comfortable with typing, or have not clearly understood it” said Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Ignou.
Ignou’s exam will include subjective in which students have to type out answers in detail. Rao said, “At Ignou we have always maintained the highest standards, especially when it comes to evaluation and fair practices. Overall in India, the stress is on subjective types of exams for universities, so that is what we have continued in our online programme, through some MCQ-type questions may also be there.”
For Nagpur, Indira Gandhi National Open University’s online programmes offering CBTs are expected to begin in the next session.
