Cabinet Approves PAN 2.0 Project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the ambitious PAN 2.0 Project of the Income Tax Department. This transformative e-Governance initiative, with an allocated budget of ₹1,435 crore, aims to modernize and enhance taxpayer registration services using cutting-edge technology.

The PAN 2.0 Project is a significant upgrade from the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 system, integrating core and non-core activities while consolidating PAN validation services. Designed to deliver a seamless and eco-friendly experience, the project promises substantial benefits, including:

  1. Ease of Access: Faster service delivery with improved quality for taxpayers.
  2. Data Consistency: Establishing PAN as a single source of truth across government systems.
  3. Cost Optimization: Reducing expenses through streamlined, eco-friendly processes.
  4. Enhanced Security: Upgrading infrastructure to ensure greater agility and protection.

Aligned with the Digital India mission, PAN 2.0 will enable the Permanent Account Number (PAN) to serve as a common identifier across specified government agencies’ digital systems, further advancing India’s digital transformation goals.

The project underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient governance, ensuring a robust, user-centric approach to taxpayer services.
