The Ministry of Education (MoE) has decided to continue the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) till 2025-26. Under this scheme, scholarship is given to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections to prevent them from dropping out at class VIII. 100% funds are given by the Centre under this scheme.
The ministry has approved the continuation of the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme with some minor changes in eligibility criteria for the scholarship. The scholarship will now be awarded to students from the income ceiling up to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum. Earlier the scholarship was given to students from the income ceiling up to Rs 1.5 lakh.
The ministry released a statement that around 1 lakh fresh scholarships of Rs 12,000 per annum (Rs 1,000 per month) per student are awarded to eligible students of class IX every year. The scholarship financially supports the students in their continuation and renewal in classes X and XII for study in state government, government-aided and local body schools under the scheme.
