New Delhi: The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) commemorated its 20th anniversary today, affirming its steadfast commitment to constructing India’s internet infrastructure. This significant milestone signifies two decades of NIXI’s outstanding efforts to establish a resilient and comprehensive digital ecosystem in the country through its business units, which include Internet Exchange, .IN Registry, IRINN, and NIXI-CSC Data Services Ltd. The celebration took place at Kamani Auditorium and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), other government departments, esteemed partners, and the dynamic NIXI community.

At the event, the MeitY Secretary and Chairman of NIXI, Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma, delivered the first NIXI Foundation Day Lecture. The lecture focused on the topic of ‘Digital Transformation: Need for India and the Globe’. During his speech, Shri Sharma highlighted the significant role played by NIXI since 2003 in establishing India as a leader in the internet ecosystem.

NIXI was established with the primary objective of creating internet exchange points to ensure that India’s data remains within the country’s borders. Over time, the organization has expanded its mission to include the promotion of the .in domain and the increased usage of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in order to build the digital identity of the nation. The Data Centers vertical of NIXI plays a crucial role in this ecosystem by providing a secure and cyber-resilient structure for housing data.

Aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is effectively contributing to the Digital India initiative. Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma affirmed NIXI’s dedication to promoting innovation, facilitating inclusivity throughout the nation, and utilizing technology to empower a digitally enabled India.
