In a significant push towards sustainable digital infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh today laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Green Data Centre in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad.
The project is a collaborative initiative between Central Electronics Limited (CEL)—a Government of India PSU under the Ministry of Science & Technology affiliated with CSIR—and cloud and data centre company ESDS. With an investment of approximately ₹1,000 crore, the facility will have a capacity of 30 megawatts and is envisioned to become a major digital infrastructure hub for the region.
Dr. Singh highlighted the project’s alignment with India’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. “This Green Data Centre will not only serve as a robust digital backbone but also demonstrate how infrastructure growth can be achieved without compromising on environmental responsibility,” he said.
Designed to meet Tier III/TIA/Uptime-compliant standards, the data centre will feature scalable infrastructure, accommodating up to 200 high-density racks per floor. It will be powered by energy-efficient and sustainable systems, including reflective roofing, smart cooling technologies, rainwater harvesting, and renewable energy sources, all aimed at reducing carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly operations.
With a 40 Gbps ring fibre network, supported by multiple ISPs, and dual 10 Gbps links, the centre will enable seamless cloud integration and disaster recovery. It is also expected to attract startups, enterprises, and government agencies, generate skilled employment, and catalyze local innovation.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh also announced the upcoming launch of a Biotechnology Industrial Park in Lucknow and a Startup Conclave in Uttar Pradesh following the Independence Day celebrations. These initiatives further underscore the Centre’s focus on fostering an innovation-driven economy in the state.
CEL, known for its pioneering work in solar photovoltaic technology, continues to play a pivotal role in implementing renewable energy solutions in tribal and remote regions. Its solar panel technology has expanded access to electricity while supporting national goals in defence, railway safety, and digital literacy.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening the science and technology ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh. He also recalled Dr. Singh’s contributions to the state, including the inauguration of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) building in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
