India and Maldives have entered into an agreement for cooperation in education, health, and capacity-building. During the ongoing visit of Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Government of India to the Maldives, the foreign of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid commenting on the agreement said that the relationship of Maldives with India is built on mutual respect and trust. He added that the two countries are bound by shared waters, values, history, and interests.
Jaishankar has handed over India’s expanded coastal radar system to the Maldives with an aim to strengthen security in the region. The minister described the radar system as a product of the MEA-Navy partnership for regional security and a fine example of India’s ‘SAGAR’ and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policies.
Both the countries also inaugurated the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, which is a project funded by India. Abdulla Shahid said that this was the first college of this capacity, dedicated to the training of the police and the law enforcement to be built in the Maldives.
