India’s Space Economy Soars to $8 Billion, Projected to Reach $44 Billion in a Decade: Dr. Jitendra Singh

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, shed light on India’s remarkable advancements in the biopharma and space sectors while underscoring the nation’s commitment to governance and climate action under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Space Sector: A New Era of Growth and Innovation

Dr. Singh credited PM Modi for transformative reforms in the space sector, which opened doors for private investment and innovation. With the space economy growing to $8 billion and projected to reach $44 billion by 2035, India is poised for unprecedented growth. Landmark missions like the indigenous Gaganyaan Mission, the upcoming Chandrayaan-4 (2027), Shukrayaan (2028), and the Indian Space Station (2030) signify India’s robust trajectory in space exploration.

Innovations like the SPADEX mission, which enables docking capabilities, and the Vyom Mitra robo mission, a precursor to human space exploration, showcase India’s technological prowess. Startups and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) have emerged as key drivers, fostering innovation and positioning India as a leader in space technology.

Biopharma and Bio-Economy: Catalysts of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Dr. Singh emphasized India’s bio-economy as a cornerstone of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With a dedicated BIO-E3 policy, India is one of the first nations to formalize a comprehensive framework for biomanufacturing and bio foundries. Abundant resources spanning the Himalayas to India’s coastal regions provide a fertile ground for innovation in recycling, manufacturing, and startup ecosystems.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships, supporting knowledge pooling, and empowering startups to sustain this momentum, cementing India’s leadership in the global bio-economy.

Citizen-Centric Governance: A Paradigm Shift

Highlighting governance reforms, Dr. Singh praised initiatives like Mission Karmayogi, which focus on role-based capacity building to redefine bureaucracy. Digital innovations, including the face-recognition-enabled digital life certificate and dynamic online citizen services, have streamlined processes and enhanced accessibility.

Commitment to Climate Action

Reiterating India’s leadership in addressing climate challenges, Dr. Singh lauded the PM’s Mission LiFE, promoting sustainable living. India’s preventive healthcare initiatives and adherence to global environmental standards further solidify its position as a global leader in sustainability.

A Reliable Global Partner

Dr. Singh concluded by emphasizing India’s emergence as a reliable partner on the global stage, driven by transparency, collaboration, and innovation. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India has become a hub for startups, businesses, and industries, exemplifying its prowess in technology, sustainability, and governance.

With these strides, India stands at the forefront of global transformation, ready to lead the world into a future defined by innovation and inclusivity.
