PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth ₹48,520 Crore to Boost Bihar’s Infrastructure

In a massive infrastructure and development push ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled projects worth over ₹48,520 crore, promising a new era of growth for the state. Speaking at a public gathering in Karakat, the Prime Minister said he was privileged to accelerate the state’s development on its sacred soil.

The flurry of projects—spanning power, roads, and railways—signals the Centre’s focus on boosting economic and logistical strength in the eastern region. Present at the event were Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Ministers, and several other dignitaries.

Key Highlights of the ₹48,520 Crore Package

  • Power Sector:
The Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-II) in Aurangabad district took center stage, with a massive ₹29,930 crore investment. The project is expected to not only bolster energy security in Bihar and eastern India but also generate employment and offer affordable electricity.
  • Road Sector:
Several major road connectivity projects were either inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid, including:

    • Four-laning of Patna–Arrah–Sasaram
    • Six-laning of Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata highway
    • New Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli
    • Four-laning of Patna–Gaya–Dobhi highway (₹5,520 crore)
    • Elevated highway upgrades in Gopalganj

These road expansions aim to boost trade routes, enhance intra-state mobility, and reduce travel time for both commuters and freight.

  • Rail Sector:
Modi also dedicated the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, built at a cost of ₹1,330 crore, to help decongest existing rail routes and streamline freight movement.
In addition, he laid the foundation stone for the new Harding Park Station in Patna, which will feature five modern terminals, aimed at improving passenger convenience and regional connectivity.

The overall tone of Modi’s speech emphasized empowerment through infrastructure. He called these projects “investments in Bihar’s future” and reiterated his government’s commitment to equitable development across India, especially in regions that have long battled with underinvestment.

The rollout of these ambitious projects marks a significant step in turning Bihar into a logistical and economic hub, offering better opportunities to its people and strengthening its role in the nation’s growth story.
