President Murmu Calls for Greater Emphasis on Research in Education

President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the critical role of research in India’s education system while addressing the 21st convocation ceremony of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune on Tuesday. She emphasized that Indian research scholars are not only capable of addressing the country’s challenges but also contributing solutions to global problems.

In her speech, President Murmu underscored the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which places a strong emphasis on research and innovation. She urged students to pursue excellence, cautioning them not to equate success solely with material wealth such as money, big houses, or cars.

‘I am confident that the young generation is working hard towards the development of the country. People of the country possess a lot of talent and skill,’ the President stated. She encouraged students to use their knowledge to address societal needs, particularly focusing on solutions that benefit marginalized communities and promote sustainability.

Murmu also urged professors, faculty members, and alumni of Symbiosis University to actively promote research within the education system. She noted that years of dedicated research often lead to groundbreaking inventions and solutions to pressing challenges. The President praised Symbiosis University’s multi-disciplinary research centers, which are involved in crucial areas such as water resource management, stem cell research, nano-science, and climate change.

Addressing the students, the President advised them to strive for excellence in all their endeavors. She expressed confidence that they would grasp the true meaning of success and work towards improving the standard of living for others.

‘Students can make effective contributions in fields like management, healthcare, law, and social sciences through innovation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning,’ Murmu said.

The President also highlighted the importance of understanding India’s diverse cultures and communities, urging students to develop software, healthcare products, and marketing strategies that cater to the needs of underprivileged sections of society while promoting sustainability.

Murmu commended initiatives such as Start-Up India, Skill India, Make in India, and Digital India, which she said would help students achieve their goals. She emphasized that the progress of Nari Shakti (women’s power) is not only a source of pride but also a crucial indicator of the country’s development.

In closing, President Murmu praised the establishment of ‘Symbiosis Arogya Dham,’ an initiative aimed at enhancing medical services. She urged all educational institutions to provide value-based education that integrates the latest technological advancements, fostering a generation capable of driving India’s growth and development.
