RailTel launched PM-WANI across 100 railway stations

Rail PSU said in a statement that RailTel has launched Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) scheme-based access to its public WiFi services across 100 railway stations. The service was launched by the Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, Puneet Chawla on Monday.

RailTel launches prepaid Wi Fi services at 4000 railway stations -

PM-WANI is an ambitious initiative by the Department of Telecom, Government of India, taken to connect all silo Wi-Fi networks so that users can use the service easily and proliferate broadband usage for the masses.

The services will be later extended to all 6,102 railway stations having Wi-Fi facilities. It would be done in phases by the end of June 2022

Users can access this WiFi network by downloading an android-based mobile app named ‘Wi-DOT’ available on Google Play Store.

Addressing the event, Puneet Chawla said, “RailTel being the most widespread integrated WiFi network of the country supporting the largest footfall of Wi-Fi users is taking an anchor role in the entire PM-WANI eco-system.”

Commenting on the launch of the PM-WANI service, Rajkumar Upadhyay, the Executive Director and Chairman of C-DOT  said that the synergistic engagement between C-DOT and RailTel will encourage innovation leading to the design, development, and deployment of advanced technologies in national networks including the Indian Railways.
