SEHAT offering free healthcare to J&K benefitting people at large

SEHAT scheme launched by centre providing free, universal healthcare to people of Jammu and Kashmir spend Rs 1.7 crore each day on treatment of needy patients.

An official said, “Around 1,000 patients apply each day for free IPD treatment in J&K, a record among all Union Territories. Jammu and Kashmir has become the first among the states and UTs to offer free health unsurance to its residents, rich or poor. The UT did not have a health insurance scheme for almost 70 years.”

The official also acknowledged that if any healthcare establishment is denying the treatment under the scheme, strict action will be taken against them. SEHAT provides health cover of Rs 5 lakh a family every year at empanelled hospitals. SEHAT scheme covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post hospitalization care.
