Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, stated in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that there is no GST on cash withdrawals from banks and that the only time there is a GST is when a bank purchases a cheque book from a printer.

According to the Finance Minister, not a single state objected to the plan to impose a 5% GST on pre-packaged, clearly labelled food items in the GST Council. She stated that only rooms with a daily rent of over 5000 were subject to tax, not hospital beds or ICUs.
Poor people are not subject to taxes on the consumption of any food items, according to Ms. Sitharaman, who added that the 5% GST tax only applied to pre-packaged, clearly labelled items and not to items sold in loose quantities. The Finance Minister defended the imposition of GST on food goods by stating that some or all food items were subject to taxation in every state, including grain, lentils, curd, lassi, and buttermilk. She continued by saying that there is no GST on crematoriums and that the only tax applicable is to new cremation construction.
