PM Narendra Modi to Launch UPI and RuPay Services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius, will oversee the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as RuPay card services in Mauritius. This landmark event will occur at 1 PM via video conferencing, marking a significant stride in India’s fintech innovation and digital public infrastructure.

India’s emergence as a leader in fintech innovation and digital infrastructure underlines Prime Minister Modi’s strong emphasis on sharing developmental experiences and innovations with partner nations. Leveraging robust cultural and people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka and Mauritius, this launch is poised to benefit a diverse range of individuals, enhancing digital connectivity and facilitating faster, seamless digital transactions between the countries.

The launch of UPI settlement services will cater to Indian nationals traveling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius, as well as Mauritian nationals journeying to India, ensuring convenient digital transactions across borders. Furthermore, the extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will empower Mauritian banks to issue RuPay-based cards, facilitating transactions both within India and Mauritius.
