In a move towards strengthening the indigenization of critical Marine Engineering equipment, BEML Ltd., a ‘Schedule A’ company under the Ministry of Defence, has entered into MoU with the Indian Navy. The MoU was signed on 20th August 2024 at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi, marking a pivotal step in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the design, development, manufacture, testing, and product support of vital marine engineering equipment and systems.
The agreement was formalized by Rear Admiral K Srinivas, Assistant Chief of Material (Design & Research), Indian Navy, and Shri Ajit Kumar Srivastav, Director of Defence, BEML. This collaboration aligns with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to bolster self-reliance in defence production and reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The partnership between BEML and the Indian Navy is expected to lead to the indigenous development of state-of-the-art marine engineering equipment, which will be instrumental in meeting the future operational requirements of the Indian Navy. This initiative also underscores the broader national objective of achieving self-sufficiency in critical defence technologies and reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in defence manufacturing.
