Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged the State Disaster Management Authority to build up a lightning forecast system in the state, expressing worry about the number of deaths caused by lightning strikes each year.

“A big number of individuals die due to lightning strikes in the state,” the Chief Minister stated during a high-level review meeting on Wednesday. Despite the unpredictability of a lightning strike, we must aim to reduce the number of people killed by delivering alerts to users who are in places where lightning strikes may occur.”
In this regard, he noted, technological arrangements should be coordinated with the State Disaster Management Authority.
The Yogi government is creating a robust system in Uttar Pradesh to prevent damage and loss of life in the wake of being fully equipped to deal with any future natural calamities.
The government will implement a Lightning Safety Program for lightning in this direction. People will receive timely information about lightning strikes in their vicinity as a result of this technology, and will be able to avoid coming to such locations. They can also prevent their pets from leaving. The district-level emergency operations centres are also being strengthened.
The government’s Aapda Mitra and Aapda Sakhi schemes will also aid in the prevention of other disasters, such as lightning strikes, and will save lives. Aapda Mitras and Aapda Sakhis will be trained and provided with rescue equipment and safety supplies in the event of a disaster.
Under this programme, 10 lakh women from Self-Help Groups would receive disaster management training. The 1070 Disaster Management Helpline will be linked to the 112 Helpline.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister, has already asked officials to provide ex gratia aid to the families who have been affected by the natural disaster within the next 24 hours. In the event of damages caused by notified calamities such as storms, lightning, and drowning, the State Disaster Response Fund provides ex-gratia aid.
In the event of death owing to declared catastrophes, the amount payable is Rs 4 lakh per person, Rs 59,100 per person in the event of physical disability between 40% and 60%, and Rs 2 lakh per person in the event of physical impairment greater than 60%
