The government has extended the tenure of Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas as Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) for a period of one year beyond May 3, 2022. Vyas has been serving DAE and AEC since September 21, 2018. The extension of Vyas’s service for a period of one year has been approved by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet.
This is the second extension of Vyas who was first appointed to the respective post in September 2018.
Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas has pursued BE (Mechanical Engineering) with first-class from MS University, Vadodara. He is a top nuclear scientist of the country. Vyas has served as the Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. He has been conferred with various awards including DAE excellent award in 2007, 2008, 2012, 2012, 2013, The Homi Bhabha Science & Technology Award, 2006 among other.
